Regardless of the pump type or application, there are some basic start-up steps. In this article, in addition to some general start-up steps, I will also cover some of the often overlooked details (common mistakes) that can lead to a "disaster" for maintainers and equipment.
Note: The pumps mentioned in this article refer to centrifugal pumps.
1) The EOMM and local facility operating procedures/manuals have been carefully read.
2) Each centrifugal pump must be primed, vented and filled with liquid before starting. The pump to be started must be properly primed and vented.
3) The pump suction valve must be fully opened.
4) The pump outlet valve can be closed, partially open, or fully open, depending on several factors described in Part 2 of this article.
5) The bearings of the pump and driver must have the proper oil at the proper level and/or the presence or absence of grease. For oil mist or pressurized oil lubrication, it must be confirmed that the external lubrication system is activated.
6) The packing and/or mechanical seal must be adjusted and/or set correctly.
7) The driver must be precisely aligned with the pump.
8) The installation and arrangement of the entire pump and its system have been completed (the valve is in place).
9)操作员已经授权to start the pump (perform the lockout/tagout procedure).
10) Start the pump, then open the outlet valve (to the desired opening - ).
11) Observe the relevant instruments - the outlet pressure gauge rises to the correct pressure and the flow meter shows the correct flow.
