In which situations cannot centrifugal pumps be selected?

Characteristics of centrifugal pumps, selection of operating conditions, and selection of centrifugal pumps

Centrifugal pumps generally have the characteristics of high speed, small size, light weight, high efficiency, large flow rate, simple structure, no pulsation, stable performance, easy operation and maintenance, and are applied in various industries. Therefore, except for the following situations, centrifugal pumps should be chosen as much as possible.

What are several situations where centrifugal pumps cannot be chosen?

When there are measurement requirements, choose a metering pump;

When the head requirement is high, the flow rate is small and there is no suitable small flow and high head centrifugal pump to choose from, a vortex pump can also be selected when the cavitation requirement is not high;

When the medium viscosity is large (more than 650~1000mm2/s), rotor pump or Reciprocating pump (gear pump, Screw pump) can be considered;

When the gas content of the medium is 75%, the flow rate is small, and the viscosity is less than 37.4mm2/s, a vortex pump can be selected;

For frequent starts or inconvenient liquid filling situations, pumps with self priming performance should be selected, such as self priming centrifugal pumps, self priming vortex pumps, and pneumatic (electric) diaphragm pumps.

The slurry pump should be selected based on the liquid being transported, and the required performance should be checked. The suction and discharge conditions should be analyzed, whether it operates intermittently or continuously, etc. Slurry pumps should usually operate at or near the pressure and flow conditions specified by the manufacturer's design. The following re checks should be conducted during pump installation:

1. The size, position, and elevation of the foundation should meet the design requirements, and the anchor bolts must be properly and correctly fixed in the concrete foundation. The machine should not have missing parts, damage, or rust;

2. According to the characteristics of the medium conveyed by the pump, if necessary, the material of the main components, shaft seals, and gaskets should be checked;

3. The leveling and alignment of the pump should comply with the provisions of the equipment technical documents. If there are no regulations, it should comply with the current national standard "General Specification for Construction and Acceptance of Mechanical Equipment Installation Engineering";

4. The installation of all pipelines and fittings connected to the pump body, as well as the cleaning requirements of lubricating oil pipelines, should comply with relevant national standards.
